Geology and Botony

We did two science projects last week: Smithsonian Rock and Gem Dig Kit, which the kids received for Christmas, and some flower and herb grow kits from Dollar Tree.  Here are some pictures of the dig kit in progress:

Papa's Birthday

Yesterday was Papa's birthday.  The kids met with him and Nana on Saturday, roasted hot dogs and marshmallows, and spent the night.  They woke up to a big breakfast and showered him with cards and attention.

I love the ingenuity of this one: Willow's 'present' for Papa

Shiny New Blog

I spent all of yesterday painstakingly importing individual blog entries from three different sites to this shiny new one--so there may be some inconsistencies in dates and times, but i don't think i've lost anything vital, and now have it all in once place.  Hurray!  Of all the blogging sites i've used, this has proven the most user-friendly, so i do intend to stay for awhile.

As i have time, i will clean things up a bit, add more pictures, and try to organize things better through use of labels.  You may notice a lot of links for food and DIY blogs to the right--that's mostly for my own use, as i passively follow many blogs, but don't subscribe to every type of feed.  Feel free to check them out though; i only share the ones i think are good.  The list of blogs below are those that belong to people i know personally, and will probably stay that way--all of the others show up in my Reader feed, so the list is in no way inclusive of what i read on a given day.

I fully encourage comments and discussion in the comments section of each post!  Feel free to ask questions or offer suggestions.

Kids and Guns

Less than a year ago, i would have told you there was no way one of my precious children would touch a gun, of any type, ever, until they were at least 18, and then only if they licensed and bought their own.  However, my husband and father have convinced me that bb guns aren't so bad, and I have since decided that teaching them a little responsibility before they *need* it is a good thing.  Besides, when the zombie apocalypse begins, they will be ready.

Easter

She Schooled Us

Our lovely 6-year-old is playing 'school' with the neighbor kids.  The lecture?  Carbohydrates and insulin resistance.  I can't make this stuff up.

Mother May I

Ember is just full of quotable phrases; today, while exasperated over some injustice to befall her via Nintendo DS, she sighed and said, "Oh, 'Mother-May-I'!" as though it were an obscene phrase to use for such an occasion.
