| We've been adopted by a cat. i've never had a cat, or been much of a "cat person" (besides, Ryvre and i have pretty nasty allergies to housecats), so this is all new for us, but the kids (and my husband) are thrilled. We call her Bri, which is short for Brigid. For those who don't know, that's a Celtic deity, or according to the kids, the moon--because when Ryvre asked one day "what's the moon's name?" the best answer we could come up with was the goddess for whom, in many cultures, the moon represents. It's a good name for the kitty, because she came to us at the full moon, and she's very patient and tolerent of their affections. She won Dale's heart first, about a month ago when he came home late one night from work. She was sitting in front of the door, waiting to be loved. He spent some time petting her, and noticed she was declawed and thin, so apparently she was kicked out of someone's house, or left behind during a move. He's been wanting a cat for a long time, but i have been hesitant to go looking for one. For that reason he didn't feed her, or encourage her to stay. The next morning when he told me about her, i said i wouldn't mind having her around, as long as she stayed outside. If she could manage to keep little critters away from the house, all the better. We saw her in the yard a few times in the weeks that followed, but she wouldn't come when Dale called, and if she saw me or the kids outside, she'd dart away, until a couple of nights ago, when i was on the porch talking to my husband on the phone (the only place we have bad reception is in our own house, go figure!), and she came up to me, wanting to be pet. I got her a can of tuna and a bowl of water, and we've been friends since, lol. She even plays with the kids. If one of them wants to pet her, she'll walk over to them, and flop down on the porch (and i mean with a thud) and let them rub her belly. Sometimes she'll get them to play with her too, by acting like she's leaving, and then stopping to let them catch up, and then running another short distance until she gets bored of them, or they catch her and rub her belly some more. Willow made the mistake yesterday of trying to pick Bree up--she didn't like it, but made her warning very gently; she hissed and showed her teeth, but didn't try to bite or scratch. Good Kitty! Willow screamed like crazy though, not because she was scared, but because Kitty wouldn't play like she wanted her to! |
